14 of the best email apps to help you achieve inbox zero
(Pocket-lint) - Email. Pooh. Just the sight of that word can bring a surge of stress over us like nothing else.
It wastes time, messes up both work and personal life, and is impossible to organize. Almost. Several new email apps have popped up in recent years, hoping to help you find some inner zen.
That zen comes in the form of Inbox Zero, an email management theory that aims to keep your inbox empty at all times. That's a lofty goal, of course, but if you're interested, check out the apps below. We've rounded up the best Android and iOS email solutions worth trying.
Keep in mind that not all of these apps are just about the inbox, but they have features tailored for deleting emails and they are all well-designed, efficient and make working with email a breeze little more tolerable. But only a little.
Best inboxless email apps

To ship
Dispatch is considered to be one of the slickest email apps for iPhone, mainly because it supports third-party apps. For example, you can archive important emails in Evernote or save links to read later with Pocket. The app also supports email aliases. Some of the disadvantages are the lack of support for POP/Exchange based email or native push.

boxer
Boxer is a gesture-based email, calendar and contacts app that lets you swipe away emails until you reach inbox zero. It also offers to-do lists, push notifications, and dashboard for important items, among many other impressive things. It even supports all major email providers including Gmail and iCloud (except for POP3-based email on iOS).

Enter App Mail
TypeApp Mail, like some of the other apps on this list, supports all major email providers and especially POP3 accounts. It offers a unified account experience, threaded conversations, smart push notifications, and both landscape and portrait modes.

top
Spike is not a traditional email client. It turns your emails into messages or conversations much like you would see in a messaging app. It supports Google, Yahoo, AOL, and iCloud accounts and offers native push notifications, groups, and calls. It also offers a dark mode.

triage
Similar to Spike, Triage is not a traditional email client. For example, there are no folders.
It simply displays your emails as a deck of cards, and you swipe an email card to either archive it or keep it. If you need to reply or forward a message, just tap the card to see more options. Triage supports Gmail, iCloud and other IMAP-based email.

Newton Mail
Newton Mail is a unified email app that supports Gmail, Exchange, Outlook, iCloud, Google Apps and all IMAP accounts. It also integrates with third-party apps like Evernote and Trello, and supports those services through something it calls "cards." With this you can just file an email in another app like Todoist. It's a great solution for power email users. However, it requires a $49.99 per year subscription.

gmail
Gmail is perfect for those of you tied to Google services. With it, you can switch between accounts or see all at once, view profile pictures as part of conversations, respond to Google Calendar invites right from the app, and organize with archiving, flagging, tagging, and more.
The Android version also supports competing email providers like Yahoo and Outlook.

outlook
Outlook for Android and iOS is a next-generation app. It supports Microsoft Exchange, Office 365, Outlook.com, iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo Mail and IMAP accounts and covers all major email services. It offers customizable quick-swipe options for archiving and scheduling emails, splits your inbox into two sections ("Focused" and "Other"), and lets you filter things like flagged or unread emails.
It also integrates your calendars and files from services like Google Calendar, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, etc.

spark
If you like the inbox-zero concept and customizable quick swipe inputs, consider Readdle's Spark. It offers short and long swipe gestures (both left and right) and they are fully customizable. For example, you can swipe right briefly to archive a message, or swipe right long to delete it. Spark also offers badges that allow you to view counts for your entire inbox, rather than just unread messages.
Spark also has a dedicated Apple Watch app.

My letter
The MyMail is well designed and known for its ability to automatically insert photos and logos for emails. So on the iPhone you'll never see a circle with a white "M" for Maggie or whatever. MyMail also makes it easy to switch between accounts. We only wish it had swipe to archive.
Oh, and the Android app doesn't look that clutter-free. MyMail supports Gmail, Hotmail, Live, Outlook, Yahoo, MSN, iCloud and AOL and more.

AquaMail
With color-coded labels and the ability to collapse all folders within an email account, Aqua Mail makes it easy to navigate inboxes and folders. The app also supports swipe gestures and provides easy-to-see action buttons that simplify tasks like replying, forwarding, and deleting emails. We also like that it supports formatted text, so you can underline, bold, italicize, and color text.
Aqua Mail supports Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, FastMail, iCloud, GMX, AOL, etc.

ProtonMail
ProtonMail is perfect for users who want a totally secure email application. Developed by students at CERN, ProtonMail offers end-to-end encryption so nobody can access your email except you and the other person you're emailing with. You can even set a timer so that the emails you send will self-destruct at a specified time after sending.
The downside to this security is that the application requires a new ProtonMail-specific email address, but if you're concerned about security and don't mind setting up forwarding for your existing accounts, ProtonMail is the best option for you She.

Blue mail
Blue Mail is a universal email application that works with Gmail, Outlook, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, AOL, iCloud and Office 365, with support for IMAP and POP3 + Exchange auto-configuration. It allows users to connect an unlimited number of accounts, making it perfect for those who juggle personal, school, and work emails in different accounts.
It's also packed with nifty features, like a dark mode option, a people toggle that lets you easily remove emails from your inbox, and the ability to easily find emails from a contact just by clicking click his avatar.
