Windows 11 assigns default locations to files you download or new files you create on the system. Usually, the default save locations are on your local drive, typically saved as C: drive. However, you may be running out of local disk space, forcing you to save files to another drive.

How to change the default save location in Windows 11

To change the default save location in Windows 11, do the following:

1. press the beginning button and then click ideas. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Windows key + I to open ideas direct.

2. Once ideas opens, select system on the left and click on it warehouse from the list on the right.

3. Then click on Advanced storage settings to expand and click Where new content is stored.

4. On the next page that opens, you can change the default save directories for various items, including new apps, new documents, new music, new photos and videos, new movies and TV shows, and offline maps.

4. You will find that the above items are set to save on your local (C:) drive by default. To change the save location, click the drop-down menu next to each content item and select a new drive, e.g. B. an external drive.

4. After selecting the drive you want to use, make sure to click Apply button to confirm.
