How to Run Diagnostics on Your iPhone or Android Phone
Wondering if your smartphone is doing well? Whether it's a used phone you've just bought or an old device you're looking to sell, you can run it through a series of diagnostic tests. Some Android devices have built-in diagnostic tools, but the App Store and Google Play Store also offer third-party diagnostic tools.
Apps like Phone Doctor Plus, Phone Diagnostics, Phone Check and Test, and TextX can run a variety of tests to check your phone's touchscreen, audio, video, camera, microphone, sensors, and other components. That's how they work.
Run diagnostics on Samsung phones

Samsung's Galaxy smartphones come with a built-in diagnostic tool that can be accessed from the keyboard. Open the Phone app, tap Keyboard, and then type *#0*##0*#. A diagnostics screen appears with buttons for a variety of tests.
Beat Red, greenor blue to test these pixel colors. Beat recipient to check the sound vibration to try the vibration function, or sensor to test the accelerometer and other sensors. You can also type Touch and then slide your finger across the screen to test the touch screen, or tap low frequency to test low frequency tones.
After your test is complete, touch the screen or tap the back button to return to the main screen. Tapping the back button on the main menu takes you back to the phone app.
Samsung members for Samsung phones

Samsung offers its own free app called Samsung Members that can be downloaded from Google Play. It offers sales and technical support as well as an integrated diagnostic tool. Open the app and tap the diagnosis button on the home screen.
Tap each icon to run diagnostic tests for battery, SIM card, sensors, touchscreen, flashlight, camera, microphone, speaker, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and more. Alternatively, tap Test all button to run all tests one after the other. If the test is successful, a check mark appears on its icon.
Run diagnostics on Motorola phones

Motorola phones can use the device help app that comes preinstalled on some devices. Open the app and tap device diagnostics. Choose Troubleshooting for testing touchscreen display, battery, audio, camera, connectivity and more.
Choose hardware test to run diagnostics on the display, backlight, touchscreen, multi-touch capability, flash, front and rear cameras, and proximity sensor. Run a test by tapping the icon for the feature you want to run. You can tap Full Test on the Hardware screen to run all available diagnostics.
Phone Doctor Plus for iPhone and Android

Designed for iOS and Android, Phone Doctor Plus will first show you a list of different tests to run, including tests for memory, CPU, speaker, microphone, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, touch screen, camera, charging and many more. Tap the Play button to run all tests, or swipe left for a list of all available tests that you can run individually. The app then displays the results of all tests.
The app also offers a status screen that shows your battery level, available storage space, free storage space, and network bandwidth. It also researches and displays the trade-in value of your phone. The Android app also launches an inventory report to ensure all phone components are original and a battery health test to check the status of your battery.
Phone diagnostics for iPhone and Android

Phone Diagnostics is available for iPhone and Android and offers a range of tests to check your touchscreen, camera, speaker, microphone, WiFi, cellular coverage and many other components. Just tap the button for the test you want to run, or tap beginning to run all tests one after the other.
The multi-touch test asks you to place three fingers on the screen. The camera test takes photos with the front and rear cameras, while the video recording test takes a quick video with the rear camera. The motion test asks you to move your phone and the GPS test checks your location on a map.
The app does not generate any reports or results, but each successful test will make the button green, while a failed or interrupted test will be red. The app can also try to direct you to a repair shop in case your phone needs to be fixed. The basic version is free with ads, but you can pay $1.99 to go ad-free.
Phone Check and Test for Android

Developed for Android, Phone Check and Test allows you to trigger a comprehensive set of diagnostics on your device. The app starts with an overview to explain how it works, how the different tests are performed, and what each test entails. A monitor screen shows you the current usage for memory, storage, battery, Wi-Fi and cellular.
To run the guided tests, select the features you want to include. The app can check battery, network connectivity, audio, display, touch screen, GPS, camera and sensors, among other things. Some of the tests run automatically, while others require your input.
After each test you can type OK if your phone goes or Not OK when something raises a red flag. You can also skip any test and go to the next. A summary screen then displays the results of each test.
TextX for iPhone

The free TestX app is designed for the iPhone (and iPad) and can diagnose on the touchscreen, headphones, speaker, microphone, accelerometer, compass, wifi, bluetooth, battery, sensors, camera and run your phone's flash.
The app offers a lot of flexibility to run the different tests. You can choose Fast scan to review key features, or tap Full scan to check everything. Alternatively, you can perform all tests within a specific category or just a specific test.
A green circle indicates a successfully completed test. After running the required tests, you can generate a full report to view the results. As a bonus feature, the app offers password-protected access to notes, files, photo albums, and any other content you choose to create and secure.
