OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro problems and how to fix them

Robert Triggs/Android Authority
Almost a year has passed since the release of the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro. As with most smartphones, there were many bugs after launch that OnePlus was able to fix with software updates. Unfortunately, some OnePlus 9 issues remain with the series, mostly after OnePlus started rolling out Oxygen OS 12 (based on Android 12) in December last year. Here's a look at some OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro issues and how to fix them!
Our verdict: OnePlus 9 Review | OnePlus 9 Pro review
Problem #1: OnePlus 9 app notification issues

Eric Zeman / Android Authority
Some OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro owners see delayed notifications or only receive notifications when they open the app.
Potential solutions:
- If you notice delayed notifications, it may be due to the phone's battery optimization feature. Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Optimization. Find the apps that are experiencing this problem. Tap Don't optimize. If you want to make sure an app keeps running in the background, you can "lock" the app. Open the application. Then start the Recent Apps Page. Long press on the app window and select "Lock" from the pop-up menu. Once done, you can remove it by going through the same process and tapping "Unlock".
- Some users have found that turning off the "adaptive notifications" setting works. Go to Settings > Apps and notifications > Special access for apps > Adaptive notifications and choose None.
- App notification issues are software related, so make sure you update the app and phone OS to the latest versions.
Problem #2: Alarm clock not working

C. Scott Brown / Android Authority
One of the more common OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro issues since the Oxygen OS 12 update has to do with the alarm clock. Some users cannot dismiss an alarm from the lock screen. More worryingly, the alarm notification only appears on the lock screen but doesn't actually ring.
Potential solutions:
- You can try clearing app data and cache. Go to Settings > Apps and notifications and open the app list. Select the Clock app, then go to "Storage and Cache". Tap on “Clear Storage” and “Clear Cache”.
- Some users say that factory reset after installing the latest version of Oxygen OS helps to fix some common errors. It's not the best solution since you'll lose all your data and need to set up the phone again, but it's worth considering if you face many problems after the update.
- If you see a lot of errors after OS update, it might be better to roll back to Oxygen OS 11 until some of these issues are fixed. OnePlus has instructions on how to do this on its forums.
Problem #3: USB-C headphones or dongle not working on OnePlus 9

Robert Triggs/Android Authority
Some users are having problem using their USB-C headphones or dongle after Oxygen OS 12 update.
Potential solutions:
- This is not an error but is caused by the OTG setting being disabled during the update. Go to Settings > System and turn on OTG Storage.
Problem #4: Android Auto issues

Eric Zeman / Android Authority
Android Auto issues are common for most smartphones. Unsurprisingly, this is also the case with the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro.
Potential solutions:
- You may experience Android Auto connection issues if you used the OnePlus Switch feature to set up your new phone. In this case, find the app in the Google Play Store, uninstall it and download it again.
- You may notice that the Android Auto app no longer appears in your app drawer. If there is a problem with the app settings, you can find them hidden in the phone settings. Go to Settings > Bluetooth and device connection > Android Auto. Everything you need should be there.
- Check the cable you are using and get a new one if necessary. If you're seeing frequent disconnects, it could be a hardware issue. On the other hand, if you're using Android Auto Wireless, consider switching to a wired connection whenever possible for more stability.
Problem #5: Google Discover cannot be removed

Robert Triggs/Android Authority
OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro owners who have updated their phones to Oxygen OS 12 find that they cannot remove the Google Discover page (by swiping on the home screen). This is not a bug but a feature. With Oxygen OS 12, the option to remove this feature was removed. You can still clear all the cards you're showing by going through your Google settings, but you'll still see a search bar at the top.
Problem #6: Camera issues

Robert Triggs/Android Authority
Some people notice a variety of camera issues on OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro after Android 12 update. Images appear blurry and fuzzy and deteriorate as you zoom in on a subject.
Potential solutions:
- You can try clearing app data and cache. Go to Settings > Apps and notifications and open the app list. Select the camera app, then go to "Storage and Cache".
- If you are seeing a lot of errors after OS update, it might be better to roll back to a previous version until some of these issues are fixed. OnePlus has instructions on how to do this on its forums.
- This software issue will likely be fixed in an upcoming update.
Problem #7: Connection issues

Dhruv Bhutani / Android Authority
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity issues can occasionally occur. OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro owners are specifically seeing Bluetooth connectivity issues that will only be fixed with a software update. Until then, you can try these general troubleshooting tips.
Wi-Fi issues
- Turn off the device and router for at least ten seconds, turn them on again, and try to connect again.
- Go to Settings > Battery > Power saving mode and make sure this option is disabled.
- Reestablish the Wi-Fi connection. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi & Network, long-press the connection name, and tap Forget. Now re-enter the details and try again.
- Make sure the Wi-Fi router firmware is up to date.
- Make sure the applications and software on the device are up to date.
- Go into your Wi-Fi network settings (the gear icon next to the name and tap on Advanced) and write down the MAC address of your device and then make sure that access is allowed in the router's MAC filter.
Bluetooth issues
- If you have trouble connecting to the car, refer to the device and car manufacturer's manual and reset your connections.
- Make sure you don't miss an important part of the connection process. Some Bluetooth devices have specific instructions.
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth and device connection and make sure nothing needs to be changed.
- Go in Settings > Bluetooth and device connection, delete all previous pairings and set them up from scratch. Don't forget to delete any devices you no longer connect to from this list.
