Spotify Connect is a feature of the Spotify app that allows you to stream music to any compatible audio device over Wi-Fi. Spotify Connect works on one device at a time, streaming directly from the Spotify servers so you can multitask on your smartphone. With listening sessions synced to the cloud, you can control where and how your music plays.

What is Spotify Connect?

Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority
Spotify Connect was launched in September 2013 to allow users to remotely control the massive library of songs from their phones, tablets and speakers. Devices compatible with Spotify Connect soon hit the market, and these days you won't find many streaming-enabled products without Spotify Connect. And it's not just speakers - Spotify Connect also works on PCs and mobile devices, so you can use your phone to control playback on your laptop or tablet, for example.
Spotify Connect is one of several methods you can use to listen to music from your phone through a stereo. Others include Bluetooth, Apple's Airplay, and Google's Chromecast. However, the most significant difference between Spotify Connect and these others is that it streams continuously at 320kbps, which is less prone to dropouts, sounds better, and has a much wider reach.
Although Spotify Connect is part of the Spotify app on your smartphone, it allows your speaker or music system to stream music directly from Spotify servers instead of your mobile device. In other words, you don't have to worry about your smartphone battery draining when you jam around for hours; it simply acts as a remote control.
Another great benefit of using Spotify Connect (especially on devices that support it natively) is that whenever you launch the app or switch between devices, it automatically adjusts the volume for the selected audio product. Pretty cool right?

Make sure both the device you are using Spotify from and the audio device you are trying to play music through are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Next, select your favorite song to play.

Once the app detects compatible speakers, a devices available The icon appears at the bottom left of the screen. The same icon appears in the lower-right corner of the Spotify desktop app. Clicking on it will bring up a list of compatible devices on your network. Select the one you want to use and the music will play from it. There may be a slight delay in between, but it's a lot faster than having to keep pairing devices all the time.

Now you're done and your smartphone or computer becomes the remote control: select a song or playlist, pause, skip or shuffle through Spotify's extensive catalogue.
Keep in mind that devices you've previously synced with will also appear in the list, no matter how far away you are. It's a feature that's sometimes useful, e.g. B. to confuse your pets while you are away.

Don't worry if your amp, speakers or stereo doesn't have Spotify Connect on board. An inexpensive dongle, e.g. B. the Amazon Echo input, can be used to quickly and cheaply get you into the Spotify Connect ecosystem.
Does Spotify Connect work with voice control?
If you have a smart speaker like the Amazon Echo, Sonos One, or Google Nest Audio, you can use voice commands to play music from Spotify on it. First, select Spotify as your default music player so you don't have to specify which service to use each time. Then just say "Alexa, play Post Malone's new album" or "OK Google, play the Interstellar soundtrack," and your smart speaker will do the rest.
