Mophie Powerstation Review: Reserve, 2X & 8X
Source: Mophie Powerstation Review: Reserve, 2X & 8X
This Mophie Powerstation review combines three different sizes into one so you can see how well the batteries are performing and which one works best for you.
The Mophie Powerstation 8x review focuses on how it helped me get through the Thanksgiving trip and a power outage, while the smaller and easier to carry Mophie Powerstation 2X and Mophie Power Reserve 1X are great everyday companions.
Buyers can purchase the Mophie Power Reserve 1X in five colors for $34.95 with a 2,600mAh battery. The Mophie Powerstation 2X costs $59.99 with a 4,000 mAh battery and the Mophie Powerstation 8X costs $149.95 with a 15,000 mAh battery.
All of these portable batteries come with a small micro USB charger but it is not built in so you can use it with any device that charges via USB. I plan to use the Mophie Power Reserve 1X to charge my Apple Watch and occasionally my iPhone. These batteries use a standard USB connector, so you can charge anything from a wearable or a controller to your iPhone, Android, or tablet.
The Mophie Powerstation 2X is a great fit for putting in a bag or bag to charge my items or to charge someone else’s gear when it’s running low. I especially like the Mophie Powerstation 8X because the Bluetooth connection lets me know how much power is left by looking at an app on my phone, and the huge battery makes it a great companion to take with me anywhere can take with me in my computer bag. The only way it could be better is if it could charge my MacBook.
Mophie Powerstation 8X review
Even power users who burn battery life like oxygen will get plenty of miles out of the Mophie Powerstation 8X. This 15,000mAh battery and two USB ports – including a fast charge port – offer impressive performance in a sleek design. The battery is charged with a micro USB cable.
With Bluetooth connectivity, users can check how much battery life is left in the Mophie Power app and even get notifications before the battery runs out.
I used the Mophie Powerstation 8X to charge my iPhone during Thanksgiving, which started at 7am and lasted until 2am. I could have used a Mophie which got me charged but at least that kept my phone going while I drove my brother-in-law home and then made the drive back.
This didn’t put much strain on the Powerstation 8X, so I haven’t put it on the charger yet. I put it in my pocket and used it to charge the Droid Maxx 2 at a coffee shop this week. There are two ports on the Mophie Powerstation 8X, and one, lined in green, provides enough power fast enough to satisfy the Droid Maxx 2’s fast charge option.
I almost forgot about the battery until later that night an issue left our neighborhood without power. I plugged my almost-dead iPad Air 2 into the green fast-charge port and filled it up to about 70% so I could at least watch a movie while I was without power.
I was willing to use it to charge my iPhone overnight but the power came back just before 11pm so I didn’t need it after all. After all that, it still has 23% battery life left – which is enough for me to charge the iPhone more than once.
The incredible performance, Bluetooth notifications and fast charging make this a great combination.
Mophie Powerstation 2X review
The Mophie Powerstation 2X is a slightly different battery. This smaller version is easier to slip into a bag when going out.
This is a product that I carry in a jacket pocket or hoodie pocket when I head out at the end of a busy day and think maybe I need more energy.
A single USB port won’t charge multiple devices at once, but with enough for two iPhone charges, you can share a charge with someone else when they need it.
The Mophie Powerstation 2X supports fast charging and like the 8X, when you charge your device it will charge it first while charging something connected to it at the same time.
Mophie power reserve 1X
Another smaller option is the Mophie Power Reserve 1X, which is about the size of a large tube of lipstick. When our power went out, I used it to charge my Apple Watch overnight. After charging the Apple Watch from 50% to 100% and keeping it charged all night, the Mophie Power Reserve 1X still has 50% battery life left.
If you’re looking for a battery option that you always have with you, the Mophie Power Reserve 1X is a great choice. The small size makes it an excellent option to stash in your car, backpack, or purse—and there’s just enough battery life. There is a charging port and a micro USB port for charging.
I use these three Mophie batteries in addition to the Mophie iPhone 6s Juice Pack reserve case. Most days the iPhone 6s battery life is sufficient, but on busy days I need the Mophie Juice Pack Reserve and on crazy days or travel I need the Mophie Powerstation 8X or similar options. Whether you use your smartphone for work or play, power outages are a real problem—but not a problem with the right accessories.
