How to Fix It When Roku Has No Sound
Roku is an excellent streaming device and you'll usually have a lot of fun with it. However, the device has its fair share of problems. A common problem is when your Roku has no sound.
Sometimes you may find that your Roku has no sound when you watch a video or try to play an audio file. There are many reasons why Roku behaves this way. However, there are several fixes for this sound problem.

Make sure mute is off
If your Roku has no sound, the first thing to do is check your TV's mute setting. Mute must be off if you want your Roku to play a sound. Pick up your TV's remote, press the mute button on it, and this should turn off silent mode on your Roku-connected TV.

Also make sure you have turned the volume up on your TV to a reasonable level so that the sound is audible. Press the volume up button on your TV remote control and bring the volume up to around 50%.
These primary checks should be completed before attempting further troubleshooting.
Unplug the cable and plug it back in
If you're still not getting sound from a Roku-connected device, there's likely a problem with the Roku's cables. In this case, you should unplug any cables that connect your Roku device to your display or TV.
For example, if you connected your Roku to your TV with an HDMI cable, unplug the cable from both your Roku device and your TV. Then plug the cable back into the appropriate ports.
If there is a problem with a loose cable, this should fix the problem.
Connect to a different input on the TV
It's possible that the port you plug your Roku into on your TV isn't working, causing you to hear no sound on your device. There are various reasons why a TV connection might not work, including dust in the connection.

One good thing about most modern TVs is that they often have multiple HDMI ports. That way you can plug your Roku into a different port on your TV and see if that works.
If the port was a problem, connecting to a different port should fix the problem and you should now have sound.
Change the Roku audio mode
Roku offers multiple audio modes, and you should choose the one that's compatible with your TV and wired connection. It's worth manually changing the audio mode to see if that fixes your Roku sound issues.
TOSLINK cable
If you're using a TOSLINK cable with your Roku, change the audio mode to Dolby Digital to fix possible sound issues:
- Press the home button on your Roku remote to access Roku's main interface.
- Choose ideas on Roku's main screen.

- In the settings menu, scroll down and select Audio from the list.
- Choose HDMI and S/PDIF on the Audio Settings screen.
- Choose Dolby Digital from the audio options available in the menu.

Play a video or audio on your Roku and the audio should play just fine.
HDMI cable
If you connected Roku to your TV using an HDMI cable, set PCM Stereo as the default audio mode and see if that fixes the issue:
- Access your Roku's main interface by pressing home button on the Roku remote.
- Choose ideas on Roku's main interface.
- Choose Audio followed by HDMI on the settings screen.

- Choose from the list of audio modes PCM stereo.

Play an audio or video file and see if you can hear the sound.
Disable volume leveling
Volume Leveling is a Roku feature that automatically adjusts the volume on your device. If you're having sound issues, consider disabling this feature to potentially resolve the issue:
- Play a video or audio on your Roku device.
- During media playback, press the * (star) button on your Roku remote.
- Choose sound settings from the menu that opens in the left sidebar.

- Mark the volume leveling Option with your Roku remote.
- Press the right arrow key on your Roku remote until the option says out.

That should fix the sound issues with your Roku.
Reset Roku
If nothing else works, factory reset your Roku. This should eliminate any problems arising due to incorrectly configured options. Your Roku will return to its factory state when you reset the device.
Keep in mind that if you reset your Roku, you will lose access to all of your custom options. Your device will also be disconnected from your Roku account. Later, when your Roku resets, you can reconfigure it using your account.
- Press the home button on your Roku remote.
- Choose ideas on Roku's main interface.
- Choose system from the Settings menu.

- Choose Advanced system settings on the system screen.

- Mark the Factory settings reset Opportunity.

- You will see a four-digit code on the right-hand side of your screen. Enter this code with your Roku remote to reset your device.
Once your Roku is reset, link it to your account to access your content.
If for some reason you are unable to complete the steps above, there is an alternative way to reset your Roku. On the back of your Roku device you will see a Reset to default button or pinhole. Use this button or pinhole to factory reset your Roku.
Solving Roku's sound problems is easy
It's annoying when your Roku device suddenly decides not to play any sound. With the above simple fixes, you can get rid of this sound error and continue your media playback as usual.
