If you’re not an iPhone and Apple Watch user, Fitbit makes a solid case for offering some of the best smartwatches available.

But now that Fitbit’s smartwatch offerings are plentiful, picking one that suits you best is a challenging task. Below we look at your choices for the best Fitbit smartwatch.

Buy the right Fitbit smartwatch for your needs

Fitbit smartwatches offer a good balance of health and fitness tracking and general smartwatch features. Like the Versa 3 and Sense, the premium offerings include microphones for controlling voice assistants or sending speech-to-text replies to messages. Fitbit smartwatches also support a growing list of apps, but this remains one of the platform’s biggest weaknesses. If app functionality is what matters most to you, you’re better off with a Wear OS smartwatch or other Fitbit alternative.

While newer Fitbit smartwatches look similar, they excel in different ways. For runners, a smartwatch with built-in GPS is key. Luckily, both Sense and Versa 3 include this particular feature. However, gym-goers would be happy with one of the models listed below. Fitbit products track various activities and sports. Luckily, the products have a tiered pricing model, so you’ll have little trouble finding a Fitbit smartwatch that fits your budget.

If you’re ready to push the definition of “smartwatch” and don’t need a large display or apps on your wrist, you might also want to consider Fitbit’s extensive list of fitness trackers. We’ve included several options beyond the Sense and Versa series in the Honorable Mentions section below.

  • The Fitbit Versa 3 is the best Fitbit smartwatch you can buy. It’s a cheaper Fitbit Sense without a few dedicated sensors. You can’t get a better Fitbit Smartwatch for the price.
  • The Fitbit Sense is the best Fitbit smartwatch for data lovers. The Sense is the device if you want to maximize the output of health and fitness data from your smartwatch, as it tracks three additional parameters on top of what the Versa 3 offers.
  • The Fitbit Versa 2 is the best cheap Fitbit smartwatch. It’s no longer the newest Fitbit smartwatch on the market, but it remains a capable and affordable companion.

Fitbit Versa 3: The best Fitbit smartwatch

Fitbit Versa 3 Review always on the display on your wrist

The Fitbit Sense might be the flagship Fitbit watch, but the Versa 3 is the more affordable buy. It features a 1.58-inch AMOLED display, built-in speaker and microphone for calls and voice assistant tasks, and built-in GPS for runners. The Versa 3 is equipped with Fitbit’s second-generation Pure Pulse heart rate sensor and an SpO2 reader.

So why is the Versa 3 the best Fitbit smartwatch and not the Sense? For one, it’s a lower list price for three sensors. Beyond that, the Versa 3 is nearly identical to the Sense. Realistically, the average user could live without those three sensors, and the Versa 3’s health-tracking performance doesn’t suffer without them either. That’s largely why we consider the Versa 3 to be the best value offering in the Fitbit family. As an extension, it is also one of the best smartwatches for Android.

Fitbit Sense: The best Fitbit smartwatch for data lovers

Fitbit Sense Review Design Display Watch Face On Wrist1

Jimmy Westenberg / Android Authority

The Fitbit Sense is the company’s flagship smartwatch, offering everything the Versa 3 has and then a little more. It offers a large AMOLED display, a snug fit, and great build quality, but trumps the Versa 3 in its sensor offerings. In addition to the usual health metrics, the Sense also tracks body temperature and stress levels via its Electrodermal Activity Sensor (EDA). In addition, it can provide insight into heart health with its electrocardiogram (ECG) sensor. These three sensors provide more health data and context for those who need it. But not everyone does.

We don’t rate the Sense quite as highly as the Versa 3 mainly because of its price. It’s regularly more expensive than the Versa 3, and unless you absolutely If you need its additional health sensors, it doesn’t offer anything above the Versa 3. You’d also be better off waiting for Fitbit’s EDA and ECG tech to mature. We found both a hit and a miss in our rating. That means if you can snag the Fitbit Sense on sale, it might end up being a better buy.

Fitbit Sense

Manage your stress and heart health

The Fitbit Sense is Fitbit’s flagship health-focused smartwatch. It has built-in ECG, GPS, and heart rate sensors, as well as a new EDA Scan app that measures your body’s stress levels. This is Fitbit’s most advanced health watch to date by far.

  • High quality premium design
  • Improved quick release straps
  • (Mostly) accurate GPS and heart rate sensors

disadvantage

  • Bad inductive button
  • EDA and ECG sensors need to be refined
  • Fitbit OS still needs work

Fitbit Versa 2: The best cheap Fitbit smartwatch

Fitbit versa 2 review amazon alexa 4

The Fitbit Versa 2 may lack the slimmer design and improved sensor array of its newer siblings, but it’s still a capable smartwatch. Although its luster may have faded somewhat with age, it remains excellent value for money. With the Versa 2, you still get advanced sleep tracking, SpO2 monitoring, heart rate tracking, and more. It also includes a microphone for quick voice responses to messages and Amazon Alexa control if you’re inclined.

However, it has its downsides. For runners, the Versa 2 lacks built-in GPS. It also doesn’t have the nifty quick-change strap features of the Sense.

Despite these flaws, the Versa 2 is a great first Fitbit or smartwatch for those on a tighter budget.

That’s it for our list of the best Fitbit smartwatches you can buy, but it’s only a fraction of what’s out there. We would also like to give special mention to the following products:

  • Fitbit Versa Lite (Amazon): Fitbit’s cheapest smartwatch offers more features than the Versa 2 at an even lower price. It’s a good entry-level option into Fitbit’s smartwatch ecosystem, but it’s pretty hard to find one on sale these days.
  • Fitbit Charge 4 (Amazon): While not strictly a smartwatch, the Charge 4 might be Fitbit’s most affordable wearable overall. The slim fitness tracker has rudimentary smartwatch capabilities but is highly valued for its solid fitness tracking intelligence and excellent value for money.
  • Fitbit Charge 5 (Amazon): The Charge 5 takes the basic features of the Charge 4 and adds a larger, color AMOLED display and more sensors. It may appeal a little more to the smartwatch crowd, but it’s more expensive than the Charge 4.
  • Fitbit Inspire 2 (Amazon): The Inspire 2 is arguably the best entry-level Fitbit wearable for those looking for standard health-tracking features. There’s also a one-year Fitbit Premium trial offered for new users, which is why you should get one.
  • Fitbit Ace 3 (Amazon): This is the only real choice in the Fitbit lineup for kids. It has multiple parental safety features, a durable body, and fitness tracking suitable for kids.
