Shortly after the release of iOS 8.4 update was an iOS 8.4 jailbreak. This is how the new jailbreak works so far on the iPhone 6.

It’s been a busy few days for the jailbreak community. A jailbreak for iOS 8.3 was released last week and several updates were released in the following days. However, iOS 8.4 was just around the corner by that point, and when the update was released earlier this week, an iOS 8.4 jailbreak quickly followed.

There’s a lot to thank for this new jailbreak, especially as this will likely be the last major iOS 8 update, so the jailbreak will continue throughout the summer until iOS 9 is released sometime in the fall.

That’s not usually the case, or at least a jailbreak doesn’t usually come that quickly. However, there were few months when iOS 8.1.2 was the latest version jailbreakable while iOS 8.2 and iOS 8.3 were released after that. Just recently, the latest version of iOS could be jailbroken.

In any case, I was able to update my iPhone 6 to iOS 8.4 (despite the hammered Apple servers) and jailbreak it using TaiG’s updated jailbreak tool. This is how my iPhone 6 behaves with the new jailbreak.

First impressions

Installing the iOS 8.4 jailbreak was painless and pretty quick. TaiG jailbreak tool for iOS 8.4 works the same as iOS 8.3 version and you just plug in your iOS device and click start. A few minutes later, you’ll be greeted with a jailbroken iPhone or iPad running on iOS 8.4.

Of course, it is important to know that the first impression of a jailbreak can be rather superficial. In other words, as long as your newly jailbroken iPhone works as it should and Cydia works well, then it’s a good jailbreak.

When the iOS 8.3 jailbreak was first released, Cydia wasn’t fully supported yet, so jailbreak tweaks wouldn’t work until the jailbreak was updated to support Cydia. This went on for a few days, but thankfully the iOS 8.4 jailbreak didn’t have the same issues.

Additionally, the iOS 8.4 jailbreak can currently only be installed through Windows machines, so Mac users will have to wait for an OS X version to be released at some point, which should happen soon enough.

One thing I noticed more (even on the first day after jailbreaking) is that my WiFi and LTE don’t drop randomly, which used to be a common occurrence. I couldn’t get online at all without restarting my iPhone. I’m not entirely sure if this is a jailbreak thing or a bug with iOS 8.1.2, but it’s definitely nice that I don’t have to deal with this anymore with the iOS 8.4 jailbreak.

While not a huge surprise, many of the performance improvements I’ve seen on my jailbroken iPhone 6 running iOS 8.4 are primarily due to iOS 8.4, and it was incredible to see the performance difference between iOS 8.4 and iOS 8.1. 2 that was previously running before I updated.

However, the jailbreak itself is much more stable this time. Cydia performs much better than before, and that makes it easier and better overall to install jailbreak tweaks.

In addition, the battery life has improved. To say the least, it was terrible on iOS 8.1.2, it went down to 50 or 60% after the workday was over when I barely used my iPhone. However, with iOS 8.4, my iPhone doesn’t typically drop below 80% when the day is over and I don’t have to constantly wonder whether to charge it or not.

Touch ID is also something I’ve seen a huge improvement in. Before that I would try to scan my fingerprint and it would either take forever or it would tell me to try again because it couldn’t read it correctly the first time.

However, with iOS 8.4, Touch ID works much better and I feel like I don’t need to avoid it and just use the passcode. It now works as it should, and that’s something to write home about, pathetic as it sounds.

The only major downside I’ve seen with the iOS 8.4 jailbreak is the tweak support. There are still a handful of popular jailbreak tweaks that need updating for iOS 8.4, including Activator and F.lux. Both have beta versions available that work with iOS 8.4, but if you’re unfamiliar with beta software, we recommend staying away until the final versions are released. However, beta versions of jailbreak tweaks are usually pretty stable.

The good news is that Springtomize has been updated for iOS 8.4. The jailbreak tweak didn’t support iOS 8.3 when this jailbreak came out, but the popular utility was only recently updated to work on iOS 8.4 and iOS 8.3.

However, it may take a while for all jailbreak tweaks to be updated to support iOS 8.4, which is not too surprising, but it may cause some inconveniences for a while if you decide to jailbreak iOS 8.4 on your device to install .
